This effort was part of a NSF funded project to prepare the foundation for curriculum adaptation and development in metrology/precision measurement at technical, engineering technology, and engineering levels. The design of an articulation model to more closely couple degree-granting institutions on behalf of students for successful outcomes is a deliverable of the current project. Strategic goals for the current project were: A. To identify industry skill standards for curriculum development in metrology/precision measurement as a foundation of advanced technological education; B. To establish a National Metrology Advisory Council; C. To develop a competency-based articulation model to enable rapid entry from community and technical colleges to the workforce and expeditious acceptance to university programs of Engineering and Engineering Technology; D. To identify appropriate instructional strategies for metrology/precision measurement that include electronic networking and distance learning; and E. To organize and distribute appropriate information for awareness and increased understanding of metrology/precision measurement and the advanced technological education required to achieve necessary competencies. The development of the articulation model was goal C, and is the topic of this paper. As a side benefit from this project, recommendations to additionally improve the curricula at both the technology and the engineering levels are included.
