摘要

The purpose of this paper is to describe recent technological advances in automation of irradiator calibration processes. A description is provided for the conceptual design, development, and operation of an automated calibration and characterization (C&C) system being used at DOE's Savannah River Site (SRS). This system integrates fully programmable electrometers and computer-controlled irradiator systems with a calibration computer. The graphical software development package is described as are the supporting software packages used for data analysis and documentation. Automation techniques are discussed, and results of typical C&C measurements for SRS gamma and x-ray irradiators are presented. Scientific and economic benefits resulting from the inherent efficiencies in automated C&C are discussed, and future enhancements of the SRS system are described.
