Cleanroom, clean environment, and micro-contamination control technology are used in numerous industries such as microelectronics, pharmaceutical, bio-technology, aerospace, health, food processing, etc., around the world. Currently there are no world cleanroom standards. In the past, countries wrote their own national standards or used another countries national standards. In many cases, these standards were not compatible with each other, especially when it came to cleanroom classes. In order to rectify this condition and to foster international trade, an ISO Technical Committee (TC) has been constituted that will address cleanroom issues requiring standardization. This paper addresses the current ISO/TC cleanroom program including the topics the TC will pursue. The paper also provides an overview of current US and European cleanroom standards.
