Calibration data for turbine flowmeters of various manufacturers are analyzed using linear least squares to investigate the relationship between flowmeter frequency or pulse rate, f, and volume flow rate, Q. Least-squares-generated equations of the form f=a+bQ or Q=a′+b′F are shown to be effective in representing calibration data and in the calculation of Q from measured values of f. The conventional F-factor, the ratio of f to Q is shown to be in general not constant and therefore not an effective expression of the relationship between f and Q. The existence of multiple linear regions is shown.
