Bioprocessing of plant cell cultures for production of useful plant-specific metabolites

Plant cell culture is a useful technology for production of valuable plant-specific metabolites. The problems that yet bewilder the optimization and scale-up of this bioprocess have not been over emphasized. There has been a great progress in recent years towards bioreactor improvement, and more should be done to optimize the environmental factors including medium components for each case. A furhter development in cultivation processes, particularly process integration, monitoring and control, will be enhanced following a better understanding of the cell metabolism and physiology. Here, some latest results from our laboratory are described.
