As a drug carrier for a drug delivery system (DDS), a single-dispersed W/O/W emulsion of a nano-size particle was newly prepared. The diameters of the emulsions were about 30 approx 60 nm and possessed an inner aqueous phase isolated by a lipid-liquid membane. The main constituents of the emulsion were soybean oil, polyglycerol ester, Span80, soybean-lecithin and cholesterol. This emulsion was also found to flow smoothly in a superior mesentric artery of rabbit. The surface of the emulsion was modified by a monoclonal antibody of human CD45. In the modification, the Fc fragment of the IgG was specificaly bound to the protein A which had been already immobilized to the emulsion surface. Thus, the could control an orientation of the immobilized IgG. The anti-CD45-modified emulsion was found to be specifically adsorbed to human neutrophil. Thus, it was presented that the modified emulsion was expected to be used for a DDS in the field of such an AIDS therapy.
