The combination of erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) and wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) has been demonstrated as the most promising technique in ultralong-haul transmission. As many EDFAs are cascaded, equalizing dynamic power levels becomes an important issue. Several passive equalization methods, like long-period fiber grating,~1 and telemetric,~2 have been demonstrated in ling-distance transmission. However, in the dynamic reconfigurable network system, the passive equalization method cannot meet the requirement of its fast dynamic characteristics.
