Since the first trial superclean rotorforging was manufactured by JSW in 1986, 28 superclean3.5NiCrMoV LP rotors have been manufactured andshipped by JSW. These are for the fossil fired powerplants with output up to 700 MW, and the maximum ingotsize so far to produce these forgings are 220 ton.Larger size forgings, however, have come to be neededfor future application of superclean steel in 1000MWclass plants by superclean version steel and recentlytwo forgings have been produced. The evaluation testsof the forgings revealed that superclean chemistry hasattained in all the part of the forging and goodtoughness and strength balance which is comparable torecent monoblock rotors produced from Mn bearing steel.Good resistance to temper embrittlement can beexpected in the superclean monoblock LP rotor.
