The Mitsubishi process has many advantagespertaining to economical and environmental matters.These advantages have led to the installations of theMitsubishi process in constructing new smelters. TheMitsubishi process utilizes highly oxygen enrichedblast air and uses a special lime slag in the C-furnace.These characteristics change the distribution ofimpurities from other processes which use P.S. converter.Recently an increased amount of secondary materialswhich contain impurities is being treated at NaoshimaSmelter. In order to cope with an increment of theimpurities load and maintain the cathode quality, manyimprovements have been implemented. This paperdiscusses the impurities behavior in the Mitsubishiprocess and describes the measures taken to treat anincreased amount of secondary materials.
