摘要

The influence of thermomechanical processingparameters on the flow stress behaviour, consolidation andmicrostructure of Ti-6 percent Al-4 percent V/TiC particulatereinforced metal matrix composites is presented. Hightemperature deformation processing was performed bycompression testing at three constant strain rates in the range of5 x 10~(-4) to 5 x 10~(-3) s~(-1) at various temperatures aboveand below the beta transus (850 deg C to 1000 deg C). Throughsystematic variations in the deformation processing parameters,the flow stress behaviour of the composites was modelled as afunction of the deformation temperature and strain rate. Densitymeasurements and microstructural analysis indicated thatthermomechanical processing can reduce the consolidationtemperature and time, while simultaneously improving theproperties of the composite through elimination of the residualporosity. Furthermore, deformation also leads to modification ofthe matrix microstructure, offering the potential to control themechanical properties of the composite.
