The recent past has seen growth of light scattering as a fast, precise tool of particle size measurement of all types of materials including metal powders as well as their oxides The size of the materials can range from nanometers as with composites and microemulsions but also to the more conventional metal powders and ores well into the sieve range. Many techniques are available to the particle size analyst. However, each method can be influenced to varying degrees by a variety of factors including shape, density, theoretical basis and particulate preparation The high usage rate of light scattering techniques requires an understanding of the limits of the techniques so that it is applied in the most appropriate situations This paper will describe the issues surrounding this technique
