Research and Development of a Double Steel Bottom Structure of Oil Storage Tank

Oil and gas leak accidents occur sometimes for the sever corrosion of existing large steel oil storage tanks with single bottom and the leak is not easily found. So a double steel bottom structure was proposed in this paper, which mainly consisted of a primary bottom, a secondary bottom, support components between the two bottoms and a leak monitoring device. The sealed containment space formed by the two bottoms could prevent leaking oil and gas from polluting the environment. And timely leak forecast would be available by detecting its internal gas compositions on line. 6 different support arrangements were given in this paper with a small test tank as an example. Finite element method was adopted to analyze the stress distribution on each bottom. And one of the 6 support arrangements with a suitable arrangement manner and angle steel amount was chosen as the final support arrangement of the test tank after a comprehensive consideration of stress level, deformation degree, angle steel weight and the ease of manufacture and so on.
