Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis to study the effect of spool slot configuration on spool and valve body erosion of hydraulic valve
This paper summarizes the successful application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to study the effect of spool slot configuration on spool and valve body erosion of hydraulic valve. The spool in the valve can be modulated with good accuracy. Due to high flow rates, high pressure drops during fine modulations, severity of cavitation is increased to a critical level that results in spool and body damage. The spool slot configuration has an important role to avoid the spool and body erosion. The CFD models were built to represent four different types of slot configurations. The CFD analysis predicted the best slot configuration out of those four in terms of valve body and spool erosion.
