Economic forces and common sense have combined in recent years to move hall architecture toward spaces which can successfully combine a number of different funcitons.A hall which cna successfully host conferences,amplified music concerts,film,drama,and perhas even oera must have acoustics with a high degree of speech clariyt,and such a hall is usually not satistactory for unamplified music.Such music requreis both clariyt and a large amount of hall reverberance to be successful.THe problem addressed by htis paper is tworfold: how cna elctronic systmes be utilized to make a multipurpose sapce into a first class venue for ocncert music or opera,and how cna you devise measrues which meaningfully describe what you have done?
