This paper proposes an integrated infrastructure to support the large and growing body of software tools for Computer Aided Manufacturing. The proposed infrastructure is based on an ontology-driven systematization of the CAM component domain, an agent-based communication framework, and algorithmic strategies. Such will allow researchers and other users to combine separately developed models for manufacturing processes, data repositories, optimization routines and geometry analysis tools into more comprehensive simulation software tools for analysis and optimization. An application to optimize hole quality in drilling is used as an example to illustrate the functionality of the proposed infrastructure.
