A number of tests have been conducted to evaluate the reliability of fiber optic sensors for use in health management of reusable space structures. Air gap Fabry-Perot sensors were embedded in a filament wound composite tank. Also, sensors were embedded in flat composite panels and loaded at cryogenic temperatures. At $MIN@423 F correlation between the fiber optic strain sensors and temperature compensated electrical strain gages was within 1%. Hydrostatic testing of the filament wound pressure tank at ambient temperatures produced similar results.
