Intelligent mobile data networks offer cost-effect solution to today's transportation challenges

The purpose of this paper is to present a new technology concept to the automotive engineering profession that will compel new thought in the area of IVHS. Existing communications and communications infrastructure approaches are not practical and do not have the capacity to serve the large potential number of IVHS participants. What's needed is an entirely new network that has a high capacity and low cost of entry. Both of these conditions must be accompanied by the integration of vehicle location and mobile data communications in order to bring value to IVHS.
