ON THE EVALUATION FOR MAN-MACHINE SYSTEM AND NEW NAVIGATION SYSTEM

It is reported that more than 80% of the causes of marine casualty are human errors according to accidents analysis. This value must be not only understood as the number indicating human weakness but also understood that many parts of navigation depend on human works. As human factor occupy a lot of parts in the ship operating task, the human characteristics must be known. Especially, the relation between the task and load must be cleared because human error may happen when work loads exceed specific level. It is necessary for extracting the part where human error will be happened and defining what kinds of countermeasure must be taken. In this paper, the evaluation method using 2nd'ry task that is used for evaluating mental work loads is discussed. And the results of evaluation of human work loads in the maneuvering task through the narrow water way are also discussed. Through above discussion, author points out the necessity of the suitable evaluation method and the importance of the evaluation that can clear the relation of cause and effect. This requirement of evaluation is necessary to clear the problem points and the effects of counter-measure. IBS that is new navigation system is evaluated from view point of human work loads.
