Seismic verification walkdowns of selected mechanical and electrical equipment, cable trays, tanks and heat exchangers were performed at the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant in 1993 to address the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Unresolved Safety Issue (USI) A-46. This paper discusses the walkdown program at Kewaunee, including the systems and equipment evaluated during the walkdowns and a detailed discussion of the walkdown findings. Wisconsin Public Service Corporation (WPSC) operates the Kewaunee plant and is a member of the Seismic Qualification Utility Group (SQUG) which developed the Generic Implementation Procedure (GIP) to resolve USI A-46. Kewaunee is a single unit, 535 MWe pressurized water reactor (PWR) with a Westinghouse nuclear steam supply system and turbine. The plant is located on the western shore of Lake Michigan and began commercial operation in 1974.
