Microporous Alumina-Silica membranes supported on α-Alumina substrates were prepared through sol-gel process. Effects of Al/Si ratio on viscosity, PH value and gelation time of the precursor were investigated. It was concluded that there was no reaction between the components in the mixed sol. Appearance of crack in the final products was assumed as the result of shrinkage of the gel. a cross-linked network containing a large amount of solvent during drying and calcination. Several ways were used to reduce the crack formation.
