The formation ranges of glasses in the MnO$-2$/-Li$-2$/O-P$-2$/O$-5$/ system have been experimented with. The glass structure, valence, and coordination number of manganese have been investigated by x-ray photo-electrical spectroscopy (XPS), infrared spectroscopy (IR), Raman spectroscopy, and visible spectroscopy. The results have shown that some Mn$+3$PLU$/ ions may be in four-fold coordination and enter the glass network. The valence and coordination number of manganese and color also have been discussed. The manganese (II) is pale yellow and is in six-fold octahadron coordination. The manganese (III) is purple, bluish-pink, or brown and is predominantly in six- fold coordination. However, the Mn-O bonds become more covalent with increasing MnO$-2$/ or MnO$-2$/-Li$-2$/O content in the MnO$-2$/-P$-2$/O$-5$/ and MnO$-2$/-Li$-2$/O-P$-2$/O$-5$/ system.
