Complexity of the nonlinear dynamical behavior of structures indicates that one needs some specific notions and terms to describe this behavior adequately. In this paper, an approach based on the ideas from thermodynamics and statistical mechanics is discussed. The basic relations for longitudinal nondissipative vibrations of beams are derived.
