A combined, thermally driven absorption/ mechanical compression refrigeration system is proposed, made up to a mechanical compression refrigeration unit working with the refrigerant HFC 134a and an NH{sub}3/H{sub}2O absorption refrigeration unit. The coupling of the two cooperating parts is obtained through a gas turbine connected mechanically with the HFC 13 4a unit and thermally with the absorption unit. For the calculation of the proposed system a method has been developed based on analytic functions describing the thermodynamic properties of the working media. It is found that the obtained overall performance coefficient may reach the value of 2, which is very high for a thermally driven refrigeration system.
