Massive stars in galactic disks are clumped into associations rather than having asmooth distribution. This leads to a clumpy energy input and heating by supernovaexplosions. In an OB association exploding stars form a large bubble of tenuous hotgas surrounded by a shell of dense, cool matter on a time-scale of≈10~7yr. Thismultiple supernova remnant (MSR) may eventually break out of the galactic disk(see Rozyczka 1989 for a review).
