Sol-Gel Processing of Precursor for Synthesis of Mercury-Based Superconductors

Formation of the HgBa_2Ca_2Cu_3O_(8+δ) superconducting materials critically depends on the used Ba_2Ca_2Cu_3O_x precursor. On this basis, the influence of precursor on the synthesis and properties of Hg-based superconductors has been examined. For comparisons two methods we synthesized precursors separately by sol-gel and as well as ordinary solid-state reaction methods (SSRs). The results showed that the superconductors have been prepared by sol-gel route with an excellent homogeneity and high T_c.
