In 2017 the Pilot-mounted assembly (the sorbent tube and the VOCTRAQⅡ Hydrocarbon Detector (HCD)) was developed and fielded inresponse to the USN Physiological Episode (PE) investigation.5. The data collected by this effort was used by toxicologists to assessif contamination was a factor in the increase in reported PEs.6. The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory(JHU/APL) subsequently conducted a validation study of theequipment, methods and data gathered in the USN PE Investigation.7. PE Root Cause/Corrective Action Team (RCCA) and AeromedicalToxicology Team found contamination was NOT A FACTOR,pending validation study results.8. The validation study upheld the RCCA findings.
