It is well known that polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) is good oxygen barrier, although it is significantly moisture sensitive. Therefore, it is important to understand the transport phenomena in humid PVOH and the effect of filler content. Oxygen barrier properties of a dispersion coating consisting of polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) and kaolin have been experimentally characterized, and the results have been analyzed by means of an extended model for gas permeation through a filler supplemented polymer layer.
