This paper reports on the introduction of the tablet as an educational tool in a secondary school inFlanders, Belgium (N = 694). Drawing upon the Theory of Planned Behavior, it questions the relativeextent to which attitude and subjective norm stably explain pupils' prospective forced uptake of thedevice, as well as its actual use three months later. The results indicate that attitude, next to perceivedbehavioral control (both direct and indirect through attitude) is a relatively strong factor in explainingintention and use. In turn, social norm plays a secondary, indirect role through attitude. Interestingly, itshows this perception is brought about by parents and peers, not by teachers and the school board.Still, the role of attitude is much more prominent. The pupils generally consider the tablet asinstrumental, although their positive attitude is strongly linked to the expectation of having a moreenjoyable learning experience. Our results indicate that after three months, the prior expectationsrelatively hold up and remain substantially stable.
