An Overview of the BioExtract Server - a Distributed, Web Based Application for Bioinformatic Analysis

Genome research is becoming increasingly dependent on access to multiple, distributed data sources and bioinformatic tools. The importance of integration across distributed databases and Web services will continue to grow as the number of requisite resources expands. The BioExtract Server (http://bioextract.org) is designed to contribute to meeting this need by allowing researchers via a Web browser to query multiple data sources, save query results as searchable data sets, execute local and Web-accessible analytic tools, and create computational workflows. The intent of this paper is to provide an overview of the architecture and functionality of the BioExtract Server.
