Simulation Model of Partial Discharges in Internal Void

摘要

This paper deals with partial discharges inside the internal voids of solid insulating materials. First, the physical background of partial discharges is introduced. The streamer inception, charge deployment, and charge distribution on the void surface are described. Conclusions of physical description are then used for the construction of a mathematical model which can respect dynamic behavior of applied voltage. The simulation model is based on the finite element method calculations with variable parameters that respect the current condition of the insulation system. The output of the simulation model is in the form of phase-resolved partial discharge diagrams. Model parameters were determined from experimental results measured on an artificial void in epoxy resin sample. The simulated results show good agreement with the results gathered from the experimental measurements.
