When investigating the inner dynamics of the MMC, a detailed equivalent model capable of representing both the balancing control schemes and the nonlinear dynamics of diodes is always necessary. Among previous proposed equivalent models, only submodule-averaged models (SAMs) can capture interested inner dynamics. However, the simulation accuracy and efficiency are not always satisfied. In this paper, the dynamic phasor modeling (DPM) of the MMC is proposed to further improve accuracy with guaranteed efficiency. Therein, the model of each SM is derived by the dynamic phasor; the arm model is modelled as Norton equivalents to guarantee efficiency. Simulation results have validated the effectiveness of the DPM of the MMCs.
