In this study, a multi-turn coil, a field shaper, and a Al6061-T6 tubular specimen were modeled in LS-DYNA using a 3D electromagnetic-mechanical analysis to predict the velocity and displacement of the specimen. The magnetic pressure applied on the tubular specimen and corresponding deformation were predicted in the model based on two charging energies. To validate the numerical results, experimental tests were conducted. Both velocity and displacement of specimens were determined by Photon Doppler Velocimetry (PDV). The numerical and experimental results show good agreement validating the ability of the numerical simulations to accurately capture this complicated manufacturing process.
