Bearing is one of the most widely used mechanical components. Its condition affects the performance and accuracy of the mechanic, and its fault can lead to casualties and great economic losses. In traditional condition monitoring and fault diagnosis system, sensors are placed on bearing housing which may be away from the fault sources. Thus, it is difficult to obtain information of incipient fault. To solve this problem, a smart bearing online monitoring and fault diagnosis system is designed and developed based on "smart bearing local strong signal concept". The system includes a set of integrated build-in sensors hardware component and a wireless monitoring software system based on Lab-VIEW platform. Experiment results show that the system is more accurate and reliable than traditional monitoring methods, which provides a new way for bearing online monitoring and incipient fault diagnosis.
