A design concept to feed coal to a 100 kW pressurized oxy-coal reactor using CO_2 at 20 atm was evaluated using CFD simulations and bench-scale measurements. Both modeling and measurements confirmed that a fluidized bed concept will provide coal flow rates sufficient to feed the pressurized combustor. Modeling and measurements also showed that the coal flow rate and CO_2-to-coal ratios can be controlled independently through the use of CO_2 fluidization flows and dilution flows.
