Due to the out-of-phase responses of the adjacent transmission towers causing by non-uniform ground motions, the tension force of transmission lines could lead to the damage of transmission towers and lines in earthquake. A few studies about transmission tower-line system subjected to non-uniform seismic excitations have been conducted by researchers using numerical simulation. The responses of long span transmission tower-line system subjected to non-uniform seismic excitations are performed using two shaking tables in this paper. The input seismic time histories are simulated considering the traveling wave effect, coherency loss effect and the local site effect. The scaled model of the long span transmission tower-line system is constructed based on the similarity theory. The results show that the non-uniform ground motions significantly affect the response of transmission towers. Research results could provide reference for future seismic design of long span transmission tower-line system.
