Diesel particulate matter (DPM) distribution inside a dead-end entry with loading operation were conducted in this study. Four local ventilation systems were evaluated for DPM control effectiveness. A species transport model with buoyancy effect was used with unsteady state analysis. To evaluate idling, each local ventilation system included two cases: one was both LHD and truck engines were operating for six minutes; the other was only LHD was running for six minutes. This study may be used by mining engineers as guidance to set up local ventilation, select DPM control strategies and for DPM annual training for underground miners.
