Among the conventional flow measuring instruments orifice plate is the cheapest but its co-efficient of discharge (C_d) is lower than that of the others. In the present investigation, the performance of nozzle plates were compared with that of orifice plates at different area ratios and Reynolds numbers and were found to produce higher (C_d) while maintaining the same manufacturing cost.
