A new hetropolyoxometal compound (NH4)_(14)Fe_(0.5)[As2Fe6Mo_(22)O_(85)(H2O)]·16H2O (1) has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, thermal analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal data for 1: Triclinic, P1,a= 12.6245(4) A, b = 16.8421(5) A, c = 27.1396(8) A, α = 98.892(2)°, β = 91.161(2)°, γ = 104.129(3)°, V= 5518.5(3) A3, Z = 2. The structural analysis has revealed that 1 represents a rare example of hexa-iron arsenomolybdate. The inhibitory effects of the compound 1 on A549 (human lung cancer) tumour cells were investigated by MTT assay. It is shown that compared with the reference polyoxometalate-based antitumor agent (NH3Pri)6[Mo7O_(24)]·3H2O (PM-8), 1 present higher antitumor activities.
