Controlled Permeability Formwork liners (CPF liners) are recognised to improve durability of concrete structures. CPF liners provide for a blemish free and dense concrete surface potentially doubling the lifetime of concrete structures. A new study of CPF liner effect on concrete with high fly ash content indicate the use of CPF liner in addition provides for earlier exposure to chlorides, a significant advantage to project owners, contractors and reduction of environmental impact. The quality of the CPF liner is essential to the final result. The Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Causeway project in Kuwait successfully combined specification of the CPF liner with qualification of potential suppliers based on references, 3rd party documentation and mock up trials and involving suppliers in the education and training. The experience has been very positive and the key to the success for the project.
