Exploration Vague of Offshore Semai Area in Indonesia? Changing Exploration Paradigm into Pre-Tertiary Play Based on Drilling Results, Depositional Environment, and Geophysical Data

Semai Area is located in southern part of Bird's Head, Irian Jaya, Indonesia (Figure 1), formed by interaction of three major plates, which are the Australian, Pacific, and Eurasian Plates. Some compressional events had occurred during Oligocene until Miocene and endedby Misool-Onin-Kumawa Ridge uplift in the Middle Pliocene. Exploration activities that ever been conducted in West Papua are Geological and Geophysical Surveys and Exploration-Production Well Drillingin the northern/onshore part (Bintuni Basin), meanwhile the southern/offshore part (Semai Area) is relatively unexplored.
