In seismic migration, some complex geologic structures such as subsalt shadow zones are not imaged well due to poor illumination. Staining algorithm is proposed to improve the signal-to-noise (S/N) in those poorly illuminated areas. However, it has a high memory demand for applying staining algorithm to reverse-time migration (RTM), especially in 3D case. In this work, we develop a strategy to make the staining algorithm applicable to 3D RTM. This strategy obtains the image in the target area of model using wavefield reconstruction. Numerical results demonstrate that our method can produce high S/N images of target area, and meanwhile reduce the computer memory requirement and computational time significantly.
