Digital instrumentation, bus technologies, wireless architecture, and plant ethernet networks bring new technologies and new challenges to the Control Systems engineers when using computer automated engineering tools to design the instrument systems. Finding the right balance between engineering automation tools and the data requirements of plant instrument systems and networks are day-to-day choices facing engineers working in both large and small engineering companies. Capturing necessary process data, control information, soft tags, and control logic in the design phase before handover to system integration is also becoming a staple of engineering and construction companies' system design. Following are some of the problems and solutions for handling these new technology challenges using contemporary Computer Automated Engineering (CAE) tools.
