Current research in scramjet engine operability includes the study of fueling strategies to achieve stable and optimal engine performance during ignition, acceleration, and cruise. Measured data sets are needed by design and test engineers to assess such strategies. To assist in this effort, a hybrid optical absorption system is under development and deployment in the RC-22 scramjet engine research facility at Wright-Patterson, AFB. By combining multiple light sources in both the near- and mid-infrared spectral regions, measurements of stable combustion products are planned across a common line of site(s) at the exit of an axisymmetric hydrocarbon-fueled scramjet engine. Our progress to date is reported here.
