Reliability life evaluation method of roller wheels based on contact stress

The contact stress, determined based on the Hertz theory, was introduced into the Archard damage accumulation model and contact fatigue model was modified. The reliability life of the roller wheels was calculated by using the reliability characteristics of the contact stress. The calculated results were then compared with the experimental results, and good agreements were achieved. The feasibility of the present method was validated by the comparison. As a consequence, the reliability life evaluation method of the roller wheels provides an effective method to solve the contact fatigue problem of the critical kinematic pair of the complex kinematic machines.
