Dynamic modelling of a Dense Medium Cyclone (DMC) circuit in a Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) requires residence time information. Experimental work has investigated residence times of particles in a coal DMC circuit by using a novel method using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The inclusion of density tracers with RFID technology has enabled timing of individual particles through the CHPP. RFID tracers run in a parallel test with standard density tracers have also been evaluated and compared.
