Daylight responsive dimming systems are one strategy to reduce the amount of electric light required and commonly include indoor photosensors to detect the amount of light on the work surface. This paper proposes an electric lighting control system without indoor photosensors for an office which has north-facing clerestory and south-facing windows. The south-facing windows have venetian blinds controlled by a PGSV(Predicted Glare Sensation Vote)-based glare prevention algorithm. Desk illuminance from light through the north-facing clerestory windows and desk illuminance from light through the south-facing windows with blind were calculated separately. Field measurements were carried out on both overcast and clear days. The results suggest that the dimming ratio for each of the luminaires can be determined without an indoor photosensor when the blinds are controlled by glare-prevention algorithms in which log data of tilt angle, luminance of the blind slats etc. is recorded.
