Vegetation in cities is effective for environmental preservation, disaster prevention, water retention, flood control, environmental education, and the formation of communities. It also serves as recreation sites as well as providing good scenery. Therefore, knowing the total area and distribution of vegetation is indispensable when formulating various urban policies. In particular, it is important to confirm whether sufficient vegetation exists to absorb the carbon dioxide emitted by vehicles. In this study, we accurately estimate the shaded, building, and projected regions and extract areas of vegetation from high-resolution satellite images using a three-dimensional map.
