Recent developments are providing new opportunities and challenges for transportation. From cloud computing, shared services, software big data, data analytics and visualization through to the app based market, and the always connected traveller, technology is advancing quickly. This paper considers the impact and potential of these developments and considers how transport authorities can invest in the future while minimizing concerns over legacy systems.
