A global trend in the tolling industry shows that the volume of image-based transactions will increase dramatically in the years to come. Despite the general acknowledgement of this trend and the awareness of challenges arising from it, very few tolling agencies have fully understood the true extent of the impact this will have on their business. Investing time and knowledge in understanding the key elements of image based transaction identification is not only of vital importance to the success of operational activities, it also has the potential to be financially rewarding. Up until now the challenges associated with image-based transactions have been solved by trying to glue together individual pieces of technology and separated operational processes. This will no longer be sufficient as volumes grow, forcing the industry to apply a different view on the topic. The industry will see a change where image functionality will be consolidated into independent turnkey systems instead of the current practice where functionality are scattered around inside the tolling agency's roadside and back office systems. Enhanched Image Processing (EIP) looks beyond todays practice by delivering image based transaction identification as a service.
