Investigation on the Safety Performance of the Organic Insulation Materials in Petrochemical Enterprises

Most work environment of the petrochemical production plants is above or below ambient temperatures, the chemical equipment for thermal insulation is to reduce heat loss and an important measure is to achieve thermal insulation. The use of organic insulation materials in modern buildings has made a huge contribution to energy saving. Common organic insulation materials are sprayed polyurethane borad and polystyrene particles. During the complex producing progress, in the event of an accident, fire explosion caused a high probability; while the organic insulation materials burn with releasing lat of heat and toxic fumes for their bad heat resistance and which will lead the spilled materials fire again and explosion, causing more serious accident of life and property. The calorific value of the materials is the important parameters to characterize their potential fire hazard and it's also the essential basic data to calculate its combustion releases heat and fire load; non-combustibility test can determine whether the material directly contributes to fire. The methods mentioned above were used in this paper to study the typical organic insulation materials in China, and further combustion performance analysis and proposal were made to give recommendations for improvement.
